NUS Geography Challenge 2015 Preliminary Round

Dear All,

Please see below for the programme outline of tomorrow's Preliminary Round (28 Feb 2015):

0715 - 0800: Registration
0800 - 0900: Opening Ceremony for all Students (LT11) / Teachers' Programme (Earth Lab)
0930 - 1100: Individual MCQ and SQ Round
1130 - 1215: Students' Lunch (Deck)
1245 - 1400: Team Application Question Round
1430 - 1500: Closing Ceremony & Creative Component briefing (LT11)
2100: Release of results (Tentative)

Reporting Venue: LT11, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, NUS
Attire: Full School Uniform

Things to bring:

  • Identity / Student Card (for Registration)
  • Stationery (i.e. pencil, pen, coloured pens, coloured markers, ruler, stapler)
  • Jacket / Sweater
*Please note that coloured pens and markers will be needed for the AQ round. No stationeries will be provided by the organiser.

Preliminary Round Circular

Hi everyone!

Thank you for registering NUS Geography Challenge!

As the Preliminary Round of this year's competition approaches, we have sent out an email to all teachers-in-charge with the Preliminary Round Circular attached. For more information of the Preliminary Round on 28 February 2015 (Saturday), please refer to this blog post. 


Overview
The Preliminary Round will comprise 2 components:
(i) Individual Round: MCQs and Structured Questions
There will be a total of 40 MCQs and 3 Structured Questions which students have to answer. These questions are based on Geography topics, adhering to the syllabus for iGeo (International Geography Olympiad). Sample questions and answers for NUS Geography Challenge (NUS GC) 2014 have already been uploaded on the NUS GC Blog.

(ii) Team Round: Application Question
Problem-based, open-ended Application Question has to be tackled by each school team. The Application Question will be centred on the synthesis of physical and human geographical concepts.

Results
The breakdown of scores for Preliminary Round is as follows:
       i.           Individual Round (40% of total Preliminary score)
      ii.           Team Round  (60% of total Preliminary score)
Based on the total scores calculated from both rounds, the top 40 teams will qualify for the Semi-Finals (i.e. Creative Component and Geo-Trail).
Names of schools who will proceed to the Top 40 as semi-finalists will be announced by 28th Feb 2015, 2359 hrs. Results will be disseminated via email, the ‘NUS Geography Challenge’ Facebook Page and Blog.

Prize Categories

Individual Round
Team Round
Participants will be classified into different levels of merit to recognise students for their individual performance:
Gold (Top 30 students)
Silver (Next 40 students)
Bronze (Next 50 students)
The Top 5 Best Performing Teams
(i.e. 4 students per team = 20 students)
for the Application Question will be awarded prizes.

Reporting Time: 7.15 am (Registration ends at 8.00 am)
End Time: 3.00 pm
Venue: LT11, Faculty of Arts and Social Science, NUS
Attire: Full School Uniform
Things to bring:

*Please have breakfast before coming
*Lunch will be provided for all students and teachers


How to get to NUS LT11

Bus service: 96 (From Clementi MRT)
Please alight at Bus Stop 2 (Landmark: School of Design and Environment), cross the traffic light and walk straight down slope towards FASS and follow the path that leads to the Earth Lab. LT11 is located to the left of Earth Lab.

Bus service: 95 (From Buona Vista MRT)
Please alight at Bus Stop 1 (Landmark: Central Library), and take the path to the right down slope towards LT11.

Bus service: 151 (From Hougang MRT) 
Please alight at Bus Stop 1 (Landmark: Central Library), and take the path to the right down slope towards LT11.

Bus services: 10, 33, 201
Please Alight at Kent Ridge terminal. After that, take the flight of stairs up to the bus stop directly in front of Ventus (Opp. LT13). Cross the overhead bridge that will bring you directly to LT 11.

Internal Shuttle Bus Service: A1 (From Kent Ridge MRT)
There are NUS internal shuttle buses available to the public. Please alight at Bus Stop 3 (Landmark: LT13), and take the path to the left down slope towards LT13 and the Earth Lab. Payment Notes

Hi everyone!

We're now 2 weeks away from NUS Geography Challenge 2015! :D

A short note to all teachers to please make payment promptly as the competition approaches. (: Payment details have all been sent out together with the registration confirmations. 

Once payment has been received, a confirmation email will be sent out to you. However, we would appreciate your kind patience as payments via IFASS may take quite a few days to process.  
For payments via cheque, official invoices will be sent together with the email. 

Once again, we would like to extend our gratitude for your support for this annual geography competition! We look forward to meeting all of you on 28 February 2015 as we kick-start our exploration of Singapore's geographical past, present and future! (:

Registrations have Closed!

Registration for NUS GC 2015 has officially CLOSED on 31st January.

We have 117 schools this year (highest ever?!) and we can't wait to meet you guys on 28th February 2015, Saturday, for our Preliminary Round. smile emoticon

Registration Opens!

Dear all,

Registration for NUS GC 2015 is now open!

Registration period for NUS GC 2015 will be from 1st January 2015 to 31st January 2015, 2359hr. The cost of registration will be SGD$60 per team of 4 students each.
All participants must be between 13 to 16 years old.

We are offering three modes of payment, namely:
1) IFAAS
2) Cheque in advance
3) iBanking
Once your registration is received, a confirmation email along with payment details will be sent to you.

Please refer to the Invitation Circular sent to your school for more details. We hope to see you at NUS GC 2015!

Preliminary Paper for GC 2014

As stated in our Invitation Circular, we will be releasing the Preliminary Paper for GC 2014 as a source of reference and practice for participating schools.
